We received news that my mother-in-law is terminal. Not too long ago, she had gallbladder surgery. While in surgery, the physicians discovered spots on her liver. The biopsy confirmed that she has cancer – Stage 4 Liver Cancer.

It is obvious that she has made peace with it, and I respect her for her decisions. It is hard – impossible – to say what I would do in that situation (the situation of being faced with my own mortality).

Sally Mann
As one of my biggest inspirations, I feel that her work, Proud Flesh, is fitting. She has created a beauty in decay and tenderness in the face of death. The series features her husband, who is fighting an on-going battle with muscular dystrophy.
